Re-wilding | an Spéir ARK | on-site exhibition series As part of the annual (TCAF) Thomastown Creative Arts Festival & AKA (Alternate Kilkenny Arts) festivals in County Kilkenny, Ireland.
At a time of climate crisis and biodiversity loss, the re-wilding, ecological restoration of the land surrounding my home and studio in County Kilkenny, Ireland, has provided an ecological focus to my practice. I am using my creative skills to depict the diversity and beauty of the native plants and wildlife that are now thriving as the land heals. I am developing my ecological art practice by exploring sustainable, biodegradable charcoal and papers which can be returned to Earth once they have fulfilled their purpose. My creative activities in annual on-site exhibitions and through social media fosters awareness of the natural world around us.
‘Rewilding is a simple concept: giving land back to wildlife and wildlife back to the land. To rewild is to restore natural processes, revive degraded habitats, reintroduce species either missing or depleted, and then step back and watch as the ecosystem becomes self-willed and self-regulating once again in an alchemy of flux, dynamism and unpredictability.’ Gordon Eaglesham
