I'd like to invite you to visit my Open Studio Exhibition Re-Wilding V | 2024 which marks my fifth open studio exhibition. The work this year explores the context, structure and details of the native plants which are growing on the land surrounding my sandstone studio and home in County Kilkenny. The land, named an Spéir ARK, was once a field for grazing sheep and has been left to regenerate or re-wild itself. The native plants which will be on show, are drawn and painted with sustainable charcoals, coloured pigments and egg tempera. All materials are biodegradable and can be returned to the earth.

Creeping Thistle Illusion (Feochadán reatha) was selected and exhibited at the Bloom Botanical and Floral Exhibition at Phoenix Park, Dublin from 30 May - 23 June 2024. Creeping Thistle is a native Irish plant which is much maligned and classified as a Noxious Weed. It provides food and a habitat for many pollinators, including native butterflies. The artwork has been created with willow charcoal powder, coloured pigments and egg tempera on Fabriano paper. These materials are both sustainable and biodegradable and the artwork can be returned to the Earth at anytime.
The Kilkenny Sustainable Art Show 2024 was opened on Saturday 18th May at 4pm at an Chead Tine Gallery Dunnes Stores, Kieran Street, Kilkenny by Bernadette Moloney, Biodiversity Officer, Kilkenny County Council. This was a group exhibition with work displayed by four Irish Artists who create art from organic or sustainable materials or explore the concept of biodiversity and sustainability in their practices. The artists are myself, Jennie Castle, Mary Doyle Burke (Artist and Curator), Marco Di Sante and Mairead Holohan..
I chose the Wild Teasel (Leadán úcaire) to be the Irish native plant in the spotlight for this exciting exhibition. I am currently working in willow charcoal, coloured pigments and egg tempera on Fabriano paper. The materials are both sustainable and biodegradable.
